Stag Boats

There are some positive benefits to having Stag Boats on the canal down here. They can’t catch for toffee. Which means I find the occasional freebie floating in the canal.

A little move

One has moved today. I thought it best to try and move the boat so I could assess my abilities with a mangled hand. So far so good! I made it to The George at Bathampton ROS result!

Doh!

I went to the little peoples house today to help move a hedge.DSCF3495 The mistake I made was to pick up the saw.DSCF3496 So I cleaned it and dressed it and carried on.DSCF3501 By the end of the day the hedge had gone.DSCF3498

I don’t really care! I can not fix it so why tell me? The only problem for me is I cannot post my pictures. Am I bovvered? NO! Shit happens I get on with my life.

If it said ‘you are trying to load too many pictures’ that would be fine I would know what it was talking about, but when it said ‘extented’ it was just so much bollox! I am sure it is a proper word…… but I just cant be assed to find out.

Hamlet in the Tithe barn

hamlet Last night I went to see Hamlet in the tithe Barn in Bradford on Avon. It was epic! 225 seats, raked. A small stage but more than adequate. The lighting was very professional as was the sound. One or two of the lesser characters did not project very well, but I got the story. Well worth the 10 quid ticket, however tonight’s performance had to put up with a swing band playing at the Lock Inn. Doh!

Carbon Monoxide

From 1st October 2010 new legislation as part of building regulations requires a Carbon Monoxide Detector is installed within the room for all new or replacement solid appliances.

So why is this still not part of the BSS?

Mollys Music.

Today I came out of the dry dock and moored on the pub mooring I scratched the fecking paint!  There at the pub mooring a few of the crew from the boat yard  were having a beer. We started talking about guitars and I fetched my Martin copy off the boat.

While the guitar ‘WOWed’ the assembled party, the guitar case was the highlight of Molly’s day.

So back to the nut!

I measured the shaft size and the OD of the thread and was trying to find some one who could supply a nut. They all wanted to know the pitch.  Now whilst I know what they are saying (I used to use a gauge to find out this shit!) how does Joe Soap find out. So there I am, how am I going to find out the ‘pitch’ when It occurred to me  that I am a member of the RCR. Why not let them sort it. So I called them.

While the process is not really ’efficient’ it did work eventually and I now have a nice new nut and split pin for £8.39 via Spencer Collins up at Hilperton. Thank you Spencer!

Now Spencer came along with a battery powered Makita drill which I expected to run flat before it drilled the hole, however it did drill the hole I was really impressed.

All goes to plan

I arrived in Bradford on Avon at the allotted time after a very slow cruise up the canal. I took the boat into the lock so I could take the dingy off (the roof is low on the dock). As I entered the dock I laid the chimock down and took my bike off. We positioned the boat for the stands and Tim proceeded to let the water out.

With a now empty dock I was able to survey the hull for damage. Considering I had done 20/25 miles of ice breaking over the last two years I was surprised to see that all that bull shit about ice damaging hulls was just that, bullshit!

Indeed the waterline was still coated with blacking. I now resolve to stick two fingers up at any tee-wat that complains about me taking their blacking off.

However this is slightly disconcerting. Can you see what is missing?

DSCF3454

I’m in the dock!

One has arrived in the Bradford dry dock and spent the rest of the day pressure washing the hull. Oh what fun!

UPDATE: Dry Dock

There has been a change of plan. I will be in the dry dock tomorrow morning.

In Wiltshire

Well here I am at my destination, Bradford-upon-Avon. It seems the rule here is moor where you can and stay there till the piss pot over flows then go empty it. Speed is an unknown here you are either stationary or moving there is no tick over! The majority of boats know what the speed limit is and manage to keep to it. Occasionally dropping below 3.5 mph but mostly staying with it or just a mile or two above it.

My little people have been feeding me this week and I dare say this will continue until I get in the dry dock at the end of next week.

The baby Little person is really cute. She can talk a bit, but not a convo.

I am in desperate need of a rifle, them new crows is driving me nuts. Executive Action needs to be taken ... soonest.

Ebay shite

I just don’t get it! I look up 110 ah batteries and get ads for batteries for the next two months. I buy rubber gloves and for the next three months get ads for the same rubber gloves. I buy paint and get ads for paint for the next two months.

I have bought what I need why keep on trying to sell it to me. If I need more I know where to get it!

Bradford on Avon

I find myself about a mile outside Bradford-on-Avon on a 48 hour mooring. I am going to stay the full time and do my housework. I have been a bit slack for a while now and and yesterday I had a road to Damascus moment. I realised what my diminutive daughter would see when she walked through the boat.

I sat on the back deck having a rest when I overheard this,

Husband and wife (both elderly) on a boat going past a long line of moorers. Husband to wife:- "Speed it up a bit to get us round the corner."
Wife:- "What here?"
Husband "Yes here."
From where I was, sitting on the back of  my boat, I couldn't see the corner he was referring to!

PS fuel at Hilperton is 65ppl

Caen Hill

This is the Caen Hill flight of locks. At 12 0’clock I was entering lock 50. At 13.15 I was entering lock 45. At 16.15 I was moored below lock 29 and walking back up the hill. This is a mans canal The only reason It took 3 hours from the top to the bottom is because I met people coming up I might have made it in 2 1/2 hours.
DSCF3365
This is Milly M moored between 28 & 29. We moored 4 hours after leaving the Wharf at the top.
DSCF3368

What’s this for?

Well let me tell you. I have this on my boat so that if needs be you may moor up to my boat.

Because it is there you don’t have to ask. It is there so you don’t disturb me when I am asleep or taking a dump or worse naked and likely to scare the crap out of you when I look out to see what the fuck all the fuss is about when you bang on my roof.

If there is no space please feel free to moor up, but drop some fenders first, the paint might still be wet.

DSCF8076[3]If you wake me up I might end up taking it off but there really are not enough of these about.

PPA

I can’t believe the PINK PIG ALTERNATIVE have removed me from the page because other members have called me negative and threatened to leave. Well I am stunned...........no not really. Amazed they are so up for coercion from some very dodgy people. Ho hum. Oink!

Drifters & Duty

On my way to Devizes, after the last swing bridge, I came across this boat schlept across the canal. It took me and a ‘civilian’ over half an hour to get it moored up again. I find it annoying that people don’t have proper ropes for their boat. I had to remove the stern rope and tie it to the center line so I could take it ashore and we then pulled it in and re-pinned it. I am miffed that the widebeam I had passed earlier. Either he was going to fast when he passed this boat and pulled the pins out or he just pushed it out of the way without tying it up again.

Whenever we see a boat adrift it is our duty to ensure it is properly moored before we continue on our journey.
